Uganda People Defence Forces has dismissed reports that 54 of its soldiers were killed in coordinated attacks on two Amisom military bases in Somalia’s Lower Shabelle region.

UPDF Contingent Commander Brigadier Paul Lokech told Radio Dalsan that only 4 Uganda forces were killed in the attack.

Brig Lokech said 30 Alshabaab militants were killed after they attacked the Amisom base at Bula Mareer.

The Bula Mareer fighting is said to have lasted for more than 10 hours.

Several weapons were recovered including 4 Rpgs and  2 Pkms.

Radio Dalsan is privy to photos purporting to show militants killed in the counter attack.

In the Goolweyn attack UPDF says 2 VBIED were destroyed, its drivers killed  and four militants killed.

In the attack targeting Qoryoley Amisom base UPDF said 6 militants were killed.

AlShabaab Spokesman Abdul Aziz Abu Musab had earlier told Radio Andalus the militant group’s mouthpiece that 59 Ugandan soldiers were killed in the Bula Merer attack.

14 Alshabaab fighters were killed according to the Spokesman.

Somalia National Army soldiers fought the Alshabaab militants after they launched attacks on the Qoryoley and Mashallay military bases.

These are the first coordinated attacks by the militant group on an Amisom base in 2018.
