Somalia Beats Uganda 1-0 To Reach Cecafa Finals

Somalia´s national Under 17 football team eliminated Uganda from the Cecafa Championship finals after a 1-0 win .

Farah Duuqow netted the lone goal that put Somalia into history in a first major win for the country in a regional football tournament in more than 30 years.

The match was played at the Gitega Stadium in Bujumbura Burundi.

News of the historic win was abuzz back in Somalia and the diaspora.

“Congratulations to our under 17 for reaching the Cecafa Cup final. You have made us proud. I wish you well and bring the cup home” President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo tweeted.

“Inspiring news to come out of Somalia these days. I congratulate the national team for their hard work and dedication. Keep your eyes on the trophy” Fawzi Nur said.

“Would the Somalia PM and Farmaajo fly to the final game to show support and encourage U17 players who tried their level best after three decades” Hared Hassan posed.

Somalia had l beaten Kenya 1-0 in the quarter finals, drew with Burundi and was awarded 3-0 after Ethiopia enlisted overaged players.

The Oceanic Marines will face Tanzania in the finals. Tanzania on Wednesday beat Kenya 2-1.

The Under 17 CECAFA challenge cup finals will be played on Sunday 28th.

Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Zanzibar and Sudan participated the championship.
