Somalia Foreign Affairs Minister Amb. Ahmed Isse Awad on Wednesday met his Kenyan counterpart Monica Juma in Nairobi where they discussed among other issues the current border dispute on the Gedo and Mandera regions.
Cabinet Secretary Juma issued a statement after the meeting which notably did not mention that the two top diplomats had discussed on the ongoing dispute that led Beledhawa administration to close it’s border with Kenya.
“The Ministers discussion focused on capacity building in the fields of health, teaching, administration and diplomacy for Somalia” the statement by the Kenya government said.
A source within the Kenya Foreign Affairs ministry confirmed to Radio Dalsan that the BeledHawa border dispute was tabled.
Somalia this week announced that President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo and his Kenyan counterpart Uhuru Kenyatta had spoken on the border dispute in BeledHawa and resolved to halt ongoing construction of a security wall.
A committee from both Gedo and Mandera has been formed to resolve the crisis.
BeledHawo residents have been protesting for three weeks over what they claim is an incursion into Somalia’s land.
