MOGADISHU, Somalia – Gunmen believed to be Al Shabaab assassins have murdered a Somali government soldier in Bakaro, the biggest market in Mogadishu on Sunday afternoon.
Eyewitnesses said two pistol-wielding men in their 20s have gunned down the soldier at a exchange zone in Bakaro market and escaped from the crime scene.
“The assailants shot and killed the soldier and seized his AK-47 riffle before they fled from the area,” said a Witness who spoke to Radio Dalsan over the phone.
No group has yet claimed credit for the murder of the soldier, but police have pointed finger of the blame on Al shabaab fighters who often target security force members in the capital.
Mogadishu has witnessed an increase of rampant attacks from Al shabaab in recent months, as the horn of Africa country is holding a crucial parliamentary and presidential elections.
