The residents of Garowe city, the regional state headquarter of Puntland states of Somalia have demonstrated against the growing Ethiopian population in the area.
Hundreds of people marched through the Garowe on Thursday forcing business and traffic on stand still.
The demonstrators complained about the growing illegal Ethiopian migrants in their city and demanded urgent intervention by regional state authorities.
“We are one people, one religion and we don’t want other people of different religion to come and threaten our culture,” told one protester to the media.
Authorities in Puntland have previously promised to deal with the issue of Ethiopian migrants but the people do not trust.
Number of Ethiopian citizens of Oromo origin has crossed the border to live and work in Somalia after the collapse of the strong central government of Somalia in early 1990s.
