The Ugandan which is part of African Union peace keeping mission in Somalia has requested African Union to increase the current compensation to the families that lose soldiers in Somalia from $US 50,000 to $US70,000.
Top UPDF commanders made the request during the visit of African Union (AU) commission head of peace support operations department, Mr Bam Sivuyille, in Kampala on Monday.
Ugandan official said they suggested to the AU official that there is need to increase the death compensations because the soldiers who are killed in Somali mostly leave young families that require extra support.
Issues to do with delayed payment of soldiers’ allowances in Somalia was also raised to AU officials.
Ugandan government earlier said that it deducts some amount from its soldiers serving in Somalia to build an army referral hospital near Kampala.
Uganda has the largest number in AMISOM troops contributing countries in Somalia.
