Somali President Hassan Sheikh and Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Sharmake have clashed over comments by the latter criticizing the current leadership in Somalia.
Speaking in Kismayo on Saturday when he met newly elected MPs Sharmake pointed out that what Somalia needed was a change in its leadership at the Villa Somalia.
But in a quick rejoinder President Hassan Sheikh through his spokesman Shador Haji criticized PM Sharmake of getting personal in his campaign.
In the statement the President said he is committed to protect the sovereignty of Somalia.
The push and pull between the President and Prime Minister took a nasty twist with the spokesmen of the leaders engaged in a push and pull on twitter.
“Its good that PM Omar should respect the discipline of elections and his duty as PM” Shador Haji Villa Somalia spokesman tweeted . HSM is committed to defeat (sic) the country’s territorial water” he added.
“First and foremost you are not in a position to question the discipline of the PM. Thus should refrain from your knee jerk reaction” Harbi Ali Kulane the PM spokesman reacted on twitter.
In reference to your allure mention the PM is committed to “defend” (rather than defeat) Somalia territorial waters “ PM spokesman Kulane tweeted
“Sad to note that you are using national issues for cheap political skimming” he added.
The two leaders have recently clashed creating two rival camps within the federal government with the thorny subject of Somalia’s territorial waters used as fodder to bash the PM who was part of a signed deal with Kenya regarding Somalia waters’s in 2009 while the rival camp has criticized the current leadership.
