Mixed reaction as president’s chef wins election to become MP

Former Chef and Head of Cooks at the Villa Somalia Abdirahman Yonis has been elected MP representing Somaliland.

Yonis won 36 votes to transit from the culinary arts to making laws in the Upper House.

There has been mixed reaction from the Somali public. A section of the Somali public on social media see this as a calculative move by incumbent to gain more MPs support to win the January Presidential elections.

A source in Villa Somalia told Radio Dalsan that one of the president’s drivers was pushed to vie for a seat but pressure from his clan led him to drop his ambitions.

Upon his win Yonis vehemently denied allegation that his plunge into politics was sponsored by Villa Somalia.
