The 10th Annual International Conference of the Global Somali Diaspora (GSD) kicked off in Istanbul on Saturday, focusing on the critical role of the Somali diaspora in the nation’s development and reconstruction efforts.
Somali Ambassador to Turkey, Fathudin Ospite, underscored the significance of the event, which brought together Somali federal government ministers and international delegates.
“A significant Somali community, primarily students, resides in Turkey, playing a key role in enhancing cultural, business, and economic ties between our countries.
Similarly, Somali diaspora communities worldwide are making substantial contributions to Somalia’s development,” Ospite noted.
Somali Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation, Ali Yusuf Hosh, acknowledged the diaspora’s vital role in rebuilding the nation. He encouraged skilled Somalis abroad to return and share their expertise to advance governance and development.
The two-day conference, themed “The Role of the Somali Diaspora,” features high-level panel discussions to generate actionable strategies for Somalia’s growth.
This year’s event also marks the 10th anniversary of the Global Somali Diaspora, celebrating past achievements and setting the foundation for future collaboration. The GSD advocates for the integration of Somali diaspora communities in their host countries while maintaining strong ties to their cultural roots.
