Heavy fighting erupted between Alqaeda linked militant group Alshabaab and Somalia National Army soldiers in the Middle Shabelle town of Bal’ad some 30km from the Somali capital Mogadishu.
Radio Dalsan reporter in Bal’ad says gun fighting and mortar shelling is ongoing by noon local time on Sunday.
The militant group had captured the town from the government forces raiding the Bal’ad police station, releasing prisoners and taking control of a local FM radio station last Thursday but later withdrew its fighters.
Somalia government had on Saturday announced its forces were in control of the town.
