Somalia government soldiers on Friday night killed an al shabaab commander after conducting a search in Luuqa Jelo location in the outskirts of Beledweyne town in Hiraan.
The Deputy social affairs commissioner of Hiraan confirmed the killing of the al shabaab leader and added that they also arrested other militants who were staying in the area.
Al shabaab militants are controlling part of the region and they frequently carry out attacks on AMISOM peace keeping forces.
On August 10, Somali National Army’s Commandos Division conducted a special operation in GalKacyo town in Mudug region, where 5 al-shabaab militants including foreign terrorist commander were captured.
Somali Commandos often target and conduct operations against al-shabaab militants in the south and central Somalia in collaboration with foreign friends in the region.
Gen. Ali Bashi Mohamed, the Somali National Army commander told Somali National News Agency that the foreign terrorist militant was the group’s commander and supplier of explosive elements.
“SNA’s Commondos Division conducted the operation in Gakacyo town in Mudug region and captured 5 al-shabaab militants including a foreign fighter of Sudanese origin, he was the group’s commander for explosions, his name is Sa’id Abdullahi Abubakar (Al-Sudani)”, Gen. Bashi said
