Football team representing Puntland regional state of Somalia has won inter-regional state football tournament.
Puntland captain was presented with the trophy by the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia after the final whistle in Mogadishu Konis stadium.
They won in penalty shootout against Jubbaland regional state team after the normal 90minutes plus extra 30 minutes ended 1-1 draw.
Senior government officials including the Prime Minister, Minister for sports, members of Parliament and officials from the two regional states were present during the heavy crucial match.
Members of diplomatic core led by Turkish ambassador were also present at the stadium.
The security was heighted across the city and the football stadium following today’s Alshabaab twin suicide car bomb targeted at UN compound near Mogadishu International Airport.
More 20 people were killed including private UN security guards and civilians.
Jubaland and Puntland regional state leaders have promised valuable prize for their team if they bring the trophy to respected state cities earlier before the kick off.
Ministry of Youth and Sports which has organized the tournament said it was meant for interaction among the young population in order to foster peace and reconciliation.
