Somalia President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo and his Kenyan counterpart Uhuru Kenyatta have spoken twice last week on the border dispute in BeledHawa and resolved to halt ongoing construction of a security wall, Radio Dalsan reports.
An unsigned statement sent to newsrooms from the Somalia Foreign Affairs Ministry says Farmaajo spoke to Kenyatta through phone last Saturday and Wednesday.
“The Somali and Kenyan Presidents agreed to halt the construction of the wall and to set up a committee from two sides and headed by Governors from the regions at the border in Kenya and Somalia” the statement said.
the statement concludes by pledging to protect the interest of Somalia citizens and at same time ensure good relations with Kenya.
Villa Somalia Somalia has been under pressure to address the matter.
BeledHawo residents have been protesting for three weeks over what they claim is an incursion into Somalia’s land.
Kenya has been building what it says is a security wall avert attacks from Somali militant group Alshabaab
