Garowe, the capital of Somali semi autonomous regional state of Puntland has opened its doors for three days international book fair.
Regional state President Professor Adiweli Gas alongside his Education minister have officially opened the promising event which is hosted by East African University in Garowe.
Over 30 speakers, more 572 books and guest from abroad are expected to feature at the first international book fair in the Puntland regional state headquarters.
Prof Lidwien E Kapteijns who is Somali Culture Researcher at Welesley College and the author of‘Clan Cleansing in Somalia: The Ruinous Turn of 1991’ and Russian Somali linguist Dr. G. Kapchits are expected to speak at the educational event jointly organized by the Somali Institute for Development and Research Analysis (SIDRA) and SCANSOM Publishers.
President Abdiweli Ali Gas has called upon Somalis to write as much as possible sharing his love for books.
The three days event that brought together over 50 authors, artists and illustrators will conclude on 31st July.
Somali capital Mogadishu is gearing up for the second Mogadishu International Book Fair on August from 17th to 19.
