South West and Jubbaland states of Somalia have held Thursday the second phase of the lower house elections which has been smoothly going on for the past two days in Kismayo and Baidoa cities.
Voting kicked off early Thursday in Kismayo city, Jubbaland’s administrative capital, where delegates have elected 7, members for the lower house seats.
Similarly, South West state says election for the lower house is taking place for the third day in row in Baidoa, its interim administrative capital and the delegates cast their votes to elect new members.
The lower house election also started early today in Adado town, the headquarters of Galmudug state amid prediction of fierce competition for the seats of the forthcoming Federal Parliament.
Last week, Somalia began its parliamentary election, with 14,025 delegates from across the country are voting for the 275-seats for lower house chamber of the Somali parliament.
Despite grievances by some clans over the election process, the local observers from Somalia’s electoral commission have expressed satisfaction with the ongoing lower house elections in the country.
According the election schedule, both the Lower and Upper Houses assemblies of the next parliament will elect a president in polls due to take place at the end of November, 2016.
