Before his appointment to head the Custodial Corps General Bashir Mohamed Jama “Gobe” had been serving as the Chief Of Defence.
General Jama’s career goes back to 1971 when he joined the Somali Police Force and served until 1991 when the civil war erupted in the Horn of Africa country.
He rejoined the Somali Police in 2000.
In 2011 he was appointed by President Shariff Sheikh Ahmed as the Director of the Somali Ministry of Interior.
He served as an MP in the Lower House beginning 2012 and appointed as Deputy Minister Of Somali Social Development by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
From 2013 to 2014 General Bashir served as National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA).
After serving as the Spy agency chief he was appointed to head the Custodial Corps by the Hassan Sheikh Mohamud administration but later relieved of his duties by President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo to be the Chief of Defence.
Education Background
Bashir has a Masters in peace and security Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and political science.
Security Training
He took his military training in SCUOLA Di GUERRA in Italy and later went to West Germany for further training.

Gen. Bashir served as a member of parliament and as Assistant Minister for Social Services.
The sports fun Bashir also played big roles in sports and served as a FIBA Referee and FIFA Referees
Jama also underwent security, crime investigation and commandant training in France, Saudi Arabia and South Africa.
He is known for the reforms he introduced in Somali Correctional facilities during his time as the head of Custodial Corps.
Known for his social relation he managed to include the cooperate world to assist in improving prisons in Somalia.
“I expect to continue with the reforms that I had initiated. I look forward to this new position” Gen. Bashir told Radio Dalsan in an interview upon his appointment on Monday.
