Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has sent a message of condolences to the people of Djibouti and President Ismail Omar Guelleh following the death of former Prime Minister Barkat Gourad Hamadou, Radio Dalsan reports.
The 88-year-old former Premier died on the 18 of March at a Paris hospital where he had been undergoing treatment.
Somali leaders have been paying tribute to Hamadou commemorating his long service to the Horn Of Africa country that had been pivotal in the early stages of the peace process following the eruption of the civil war in 1991.
Djibouti Ambassador to Somalia Dr. Aden Hassan Aden announced that the Embassy will commemorate the death of former Premier for three days.
“On behalf of the entire Djiboutian diplomatic mission to Somalia the Ambassador paid a heartfelt tribute to the memorial of the former Prime Minister Barkat Gourad Hamadou, one of the few most influential politicians who worked hard to consolidation of national unity for the preservation of peace and social cohesion” Dr Aden said in a statement released by the Embassy on Wednesday.
Hamadou served as Prime Minister from 1978 to 2001.
