National Trade Union Center Condemns African Union and AMISOM for union Interference

Immediate Press release

National Trade Union Center Condemns African Union and AMISOM for union Interference
 Mogadishu, July 13, 2016

Federation of Somali Trade Unions (FESTU), which is an independent Trade union center legally  registered under the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs condemns in the strongest terms possible to the African Union and its Mission to Somalia for mass interference to its Trade union center.

FESTU communicated the issue of the union interference on several communications, but now it seems that the country is under  colonial status, whereas the African Union does not completely recognize the Federal institutions and the organizations registered under those institutions.

“On behalf of Somali Workers, We condemn the African Union (AU) and its mission in Somalia for their interference and call for urgent withdrawal from the interference of the workers center.” Dr. Abdirahman Hassan Omar, FESTU Vice President said, “It is illegal and AU can not dictate us whatever they want.”

“They should respect the institutions legally registered under the Federal government of Somalia and stop further interference to our union.” Mr. Omar said.

FESTU further called the AMISOM and the AU act against its trade union center, unfortunate and unlawful act, but rather shows act of colonial terms and put the security of FESTU officials at serious risk.

Ends.
