International community urges Mogadishu and Kismayo to resolves their differences through dialogue

International partners have urged Interim Juba Administration and Federal Government of Somalia to resolve their issues through dialogue and consultations.

Juba land regional state has said it has cut all working relations and ties with central government in Somalia after national assembly passed motion of no confidence against regional parliament last week.

“We welcome the efforts of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and encourage the Interim Juba Administration (IJA) and the Federal Government to work constructively to resolve any issues arising from the Interim Juba Regional Assembly process through dialogue and consultations. The current challenges concerning the formation of the Interim Juba Administration Assembly need to be addressed in a spirit of reconciliation and compromise,”

The United Nations, Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the European Union (EU), and African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), the United States of America, and the United Kingdom welcomed the progress made to date in the Juba state formation process.

“The ministerial committee established by the Prime Minister on behalf of the Federal Government to advice on solutions is a positive step. We welcome this important development. We encourage all stakeholders to allow the Prime Minister and committee member’s time to do their work and give the committee the required cooperation,”

International partners urged Somali stakeholders to refrain from actions that will undermine the wider state formation process while saying they will be committed to supporting state building process in Somalia.

“We hope to see a constructive solution through an orderly, inclusive and Somali-led process. Somalia’s international partners remain committed to supporting the nation’s peace and state-building process,”
