The African Union Deputy Special Representative in Somalia Simon Mulongo said AMISOM will boost the training services for the Somali Police force in the year 2018 so that it will take charge of security issues.
This is part of a previous decision made by the United Nations Security Council that AMISOM should hand over their tasks to the Somali National Army.
Mr Mulongo who was rewarding some AMISOM officers for their outstanding performance in fulfilling their duties, said they are working on how to raise the quality of the Somali police service for them to be able to take AMISOM’s role in the country.
“This year we want to strengthen the training and encouragement of the Somali police force in order to improve its standard both at the federal and regional state levels and raise their quality,” said Mr Mulong.
This is expected to make the force able to counter many security challenges that are facing the country.
