US donates war craft to AMISOM to intensify operations

The American government has donated a war plane to AMISOM troops in Somalia to help intensify its security operations in the country.

According to Uganda New Vision News Paper Cessna 208B aircraft will be handed over to the UPDAF on Monday March 16.

A statement from the US embassy reveals that the plane will be handed over by the US Mission in Uganda through the United States Department of Defense at the UPDF Air Wing base in Entebbe, Uganda.

“The donation aims at increasing Uganda’s national air forces’ capacity to conduct AMISOM counterterrorism operations. These aircraft will enhance the capacity of Uganda’s air forces to provide mobility, reconnaissance, and evacuation support,” said the statement.

Uganda troops which were first deployed in Somalia in 2007 make up the biggest number of peacekeeping troops in the recuperating country.

Djibouti, Burundi, Kenya and Ethiopia are also other troops contributing countries in Somalia.
