Top Al-shabaab leader in Somalia defects, Ex Al-shabab official says

A former Al-shabab intelligence Chief  Zakariya Ismail Hersi on Thursday said that veteran Al-Shabab leader Mukhatar Roobow aka Abu Manour has defected from the group three years ago. In an interview with US based radio Hersi said that Robow has been out of the group since 2012.

“He was one of the most intellectual members that Al-shabab had and is currently living in Southern Somalia especially where he belongs” Zakariye said.

The former terror chief has revealed Al-shabaab’s new leader name as Ahmed Gurey, saying that the new leader was a close aide with former  Al-shabab leader Ahmed Abdi Godane, who was killed in an attack in southern Somalia by US.

On January US state department has removed Zakariy’s head from its wanted terror list according to Somali Federal government.
