Over 1000 Somali refugees from Yemen arrive back home

A boat carrying more than 1000 refugees including 30 Yemenis has arrived Somali port city of Berbera in Somaliland.

The refugees are fleeing the violence between Houthi Shia rebels and Saudi led coalition that has entered the second month.

95 Somali nationals who were evacuated from Yemen by the International Migration Organization (IOM) arrived safely in Mogadishu on 18 May.

Thousands of Somalis fled to neighbouring countries such as Yemen following the breakout of the civil war in the country early 1991.

Federal government of Somalia has formed task force to help in the humanitarian assistance for its nationals returning back from Yemen.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has called upon Somali citizens to equally help their Yemeni brothers fleeing the conflict.

According to International Migration Organization approximately 1200 people from 40 different countries have been evacuated so far from Yemen.
