IGAD turns down Somali candidate for Sec General for links with Alshabaab

Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has turned down letter from Somali President to recommend Somali nation for IGAD top position.

The recommended candidate Hassan Kheyre appeared on UN Monitoring group report on Somalia and Eritrea for links with armed group Alshabaab.

Mr. Hassan was also mentioned that he is the director of controversial Som Oil and Gas Company which find its self in a difficult position in the media for corruption allegations.

The Somali Norwegian double citizen also served as the senior staff of Norwegian Refugee Council in the region.

Somali Oil and Gas has dismissed UN monitoring report saying it is baseless and meant for tarnishing its name and reputation.

Sources told Radio Dalsan that President Sheikh Mohamud sent recommendation documents to regional leaders in support for Somali citizen to fill the top position at influential regional block.

IGAD top post is rotational and is currently headed by Kenyan Mahbub Maalim.IGAD 2
