The United States has denied former Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud an entry Visa following an invitation to give a lecture at the prestigious Harvard University, Radio Dalsan has learnt.
A statement from organisers of the lecture announced that the event had been cancelled after Mohamud was denied entry to the US.
“We regret to share that HE Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was denied visa issuance by thenUS Consulate in Somalia under Executive Order 13769 Protecting the Nation From Foreign Terrorist Entry in to the United States” Kate McCarthy Executive Director World Affairs Council of Maine said in a statement.
Somalia is on of the six countries included in the ban introduced by President Donald Trump.
He was scheduled for a lecture at the Harvard African Development Conference over the weekend and World Affairs Council event on Tuesday.
The lecture by the former President was titled “Somalia the Crossroads: Opportunities and Challenges Post Civil War”.
This is the second time that Mohamud has been denied Visa by a foreign country.
Last February a similar invitation to lecture was cancelled after Sweden denied Mohamud Visa. He had insisted that the visa be stamped on his Somalia passport and not a temporary document issued by Scandinavian countries. Sweden like most Scandinavian countries does not recognize the Somali passport.
