Alshabaab attack near the border lefts five Kenyan soldiers dead

At least five soldiers have been confirmed dead by Kenyan officials following armed group Alshabaab attack on Monday morning.

The attack was targeted on Kenyan police car escorting passenger bus from border town of Mandera en route to the capital Nairobi.

Sources said unspecified number of Alshabaab militants attacked the vehicle carrying Kenya soldiers with heavy weapons destroying the car.

Mandera county governor ex – captain Ali Roba has condemned the attack.

He said on his official twitter account that the information on the presence of the militants in the area was long shared by the locals leading to more questions than answers on why the Kenyan security agencies have not taken seriously.

Alshabaab killed 28 non muslims in the same area in 2014.

The group has carried out spate of attacks inside Kenya for retaliation on Kenyan military incursions inside Somalia on October 2011.
