3 Fugitive Ex-Child Militants Captured As Garowe Rehab Center is Put On Focus

Three of out of the ten former Alshabaab militants who had escaped from a rehabilitation centre in Garowe have been captured, a Puntland security official has told Radio Dalsan.

According to the official three others surrendered to the administration voluntarily after their Sunday escape.

The escape of the ten former militants has put on the scope a rehabilitation centre in the administrative capital Garowe.

At least 60 former militants were being housed at the rehabilitation centre managed by a local organization Puntland Youth and Social Development Organization ran by a Mr Abdifatah Mohamed Sugulle.

A local radio station had claimed mismanagement of funds by  Mr. Sugulle.

According to reports the organization had received at least $ 300000 from a UN agency for food and education of  38 former militants since 24 January 2017.

Mr Sugulle has dismissed the reports as “fake news”.

“That is a false news and cheap propaganda. It’s a shocking propaganda that can surely put me into problems” said Mr. Sugulle on his Facebook account.

The child soldiers had been arrested after a counter-offensive on Alshabaab in March 2016 in Suuj and Garaad towns of Puntland.
