Speaker Candidates Face Parliament Ahead of 30 April Vote

Six candidates who have registered to vie for the Speaker position are expected to present themselves before Parliament to convince Mps why they are fit enough to replace Mohamed Osman Jawari who resigned following a one month long political tussle between the house and the executive.

Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed is the immediate former State Minister Posts and Telecommunications in which he served since his appointment PM Hassan Khaire in 2017.

Ibrahim Isaack Yarow is the immediate former Deputy Minister Telecommunication Minister. he has served as a Minister in several portfolios and has been an Mp in the last 18 years. He was born in Baidoa in 1972

Mohamed Mursal is the immediate former Defence Minister who was appointed six months to his resignation to join the Speaker race. Prior to his appointment he served as Somalia Ambassador to Turkey

Born in 1957 Adan Mohamed Nur has been in the Somalia political scene since 2000. He served as Speaker between 17 January 2009 2009 and May 25th 2010.

Sharif Abdallah is a serving MP. He is seen to a major political threat to the regional President Sharif Hassan Adan in the local South West State politics.

Salim Aliyow Ibro has been in Somalia politics in the last 18 years having served as an MP.

All the above candidates are derived from the Digil Miracle clan as required in the 4.5 political system

The Speaker election has been set for 30 April.
