Somaliland Displays Troops As VP Visits Captured Tukaraq 

The breakaway region of Somaliland on Monday displayed its military might in the recently captured Tukaraq town vowing to protect it from falling back to Puntland.

Vice  President Abdirahman Abdillah Ismail made a surprise visit to the strategic town with a delegation of top military officers and government officials.

Minister Ismail inspected a military base established at Tukaraq meeting with Somaliland soldiers who captured the town in the disputed Sool region.

Tukaraq was until January 8 administered by Puntland.

Both Puntland and Somaliland have had a troops build up following the military confrontation. 

Somaliland which declared its independence in 1991 from Somalia has fought several battles with Puntland over the disputed region of Sool.
