Somaliland detains 22 for aiding migrants

Authorities in Hargeisa Somaliland said they have arrested 22 people suspected to be involved in trafficking migrants.

Somaliland Police Commissioner Gen. Abdullahi Fadal Iman said they have enough evidence on the charges of the suspects and will be brought before court soon.

General Iman added that they got false travelling documents in possession of the suspects and some of the photos of those who wanted to start their journey via the sea.

This latest arrest to curb illegal migrants comes just weeks after several passengers mainly youth were detained at Mogadishu International airport on their way to Egypt to reach Europe via the sea.

Over 100 Somalis reported to have been killed last week after the boat they were travelling in to reach Italy capsized near Malta Island.
