Somalia President makes changes to Banadir region administration

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has made changes in the running of the Somali Capital which is directly administered by the central government. 

The President has appointed four Deputy Governors and one Secretary General for the Banadir region. 

A statement released by Villa Somalia stated that the “President’s decision to appoint the officials was in response to a recommendation the president received from the Ministry of Interior and Federal Affairs.

The President has appointed Isse Mohamud Goure as deputy governor for Administration and Finance. 

Mohamed Ahmed Diriye (Yabooh) has been appointed as the deputy governor for political and security Affairs while Asis Osman Mohamed has been selected as deputy governor for social affairs. 

The head of state picked Hassan Mohamed Jimale for the role of the deputy governor for General Affairs.

Faisal Arale Afrax has also been appointed Secretary to the Benadir regional administration, according to the statement from the highest office in the country.  

The President’s appointment comes at a time when he is on tour in Galmudug and Hiiraan regions to assess the conditions of the recently liberated areas from Alshabab and encourage the locals to be part of the liberation operations in their respective areas.

Banaadir itself remains one the places Alshabab frequently carries out attacks although, the group was removed from the region in 2011 but still claims the dealiest attacks takes place in Banaadir including on 29 october twin bombs in Mogadishu.

Months after winning the elections, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in September appointed Yussuf Hussein Madaale as the new mayor of Mogadishu. He replaced Omar Mohamud Filish who served in the capacity for three years. 

The changes at the City Headquarters are aimed at streamlining service delivery to the people of Mogadishu, according to Villa Somalia. 

The Federal Government of Somalia sits in the capital and administers its affairs through the Ministry of Interior and Federal Affairs.
