The Gulf State of Bahrain has come to the backing of neighbouring United Arab Emirates following the Sunday seizure of an Emirati plane carrying millions of dollars at the Aden Abdulle International Airport in the Somali capital Mogadishu.
Bahrain Foreign Affairs Minister Khalid Bin Ahmed Al Khalifa has dismissed Somalia as an ungrateful country.
“The United Arab Emirates has set up several conferences to support Somalia, in the presence of the Somali president. She(UAE) stood by Somalia against the pirates and made every duty and provided all the support with money, arms and medicine” Al Khalifa tweeted.
“Somalia has responded only with denial, abuse and belonging in the arms of the enemies of the nation. God is sufficient for us and He is the best Disposer of affairs” Al Khalifa added.
UAE earlier termed the seizure of its plane by Somali authorities as illegal and a breach of diplomacy.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation UAE says the $9.6M seized at the Aden Abdulle International Airport was to pay Somalia National Soldiers and trainees.
Somalia has rejected UAE condemnation and says it did not breach diplomatic protocol citing the bags were by seizing were unmarked and UAE diplomats had failed to declare contents.
Bahrain’s stance could be that of the rest of the Saudi-UAE coalition allied against Qatar a country which Somalia declined to severe ties with following the 2017 Gulf Crisis.
