Somali Govt Which Designated ONLF As Terrorist Group Welcomes Talks With Ethiopia

The Federal Government Of Somalia on Thursday welcomed the talks between the Ethiopian government and the ethnic Somali separatist rebel group ONLF.

Speaking to the VOA Somali service, Somali Foreign Affairs Minister Ahmed Isse Awad said that the government welcomes any step taken to ensure peace and stability in the Horn of Africa region.

“We see every talk that leads to peace, goodness and calmness in the region or in one of the countries in the region as one that has an importance and we welcome and support it,” said Mr Awad.

Kenyan officials represented by the Senator Yussuf Haji, Governor Ali Bunow Korane, Ambassador Mohamed Abdi Affey and MP Yussuf Hassan have officiated the talks that are expected to end the long-standing conflict between the two sides.

The Somali government have been criticized for the rendition of the ONLF leader Abdikarim Sheikh Muse Qalbi Dhagah in August 2017, to the Ethiopian authorities.

In 2015 Somalia government designated ONLF together with AlShabaab as a terrorist group.
