Somali celebrates 73rd police anniversary

The countdown begins in the early hours of Tuesday as hundreds of soldiers in brightly coloured uniform queued and immediately started marching at a police academy to mark their inaugural flag-blessing day:  police day.

The Somali police force celebrated its 73rd anniversary across the country on Tuesday.

Somali government officials and Somali police band Heegan have attended the ceremony which held in Mogadishu.

A astetment from the office of the Somalia president Hassan sheikh Mohamoud send his congratulations to the police men and their wives.

Units of the Somali armed marched through Mogadishu in a show of force in a country which is recovering from decades of war.

The chief of the Somali Police Force Gen described the day as a ‘magnificent’, hailing police forces who he said continue to main the country’s security despite security challenges from the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabab group which continues attacks across Somalia.

In general, security in the capital was beefed up. Meanwhile, some of the major roads in the city were closed.

The Somali police force was established on 20th December 1943.
