The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) strongly condemns the act of threats and intimidations against the Union leaders, amid Somali media stakeholders continue their solidarity protests against the recent Somali high court decision.
The union’s ethics Secretary and a veteran journalist Amiin Yusuf Khasaaro received threatening phone call from Avv. Tahlil Haji Ahmed from Horn Legal on Tuesday evening over his coverage to the journalists’ rising protests.
“He called me and threatened with me with arrest or either remove the protest articles I wrote to several news websites.” Amin Yusuf Khasaaro said, “Its very disappointing that such a threat is legal personnel.”
The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) strongly condemns the act of threats and intimidation against the union official by Avv. Tahlil Haji Ahmed from Horn Legal and a former UNDP employee and call upon Avv. Tahlil to refrain from such dangerous acts meant to intimidate, threaten, or silence the independent media and journalists.
“We strongly condemn the acts of threats and intimidation against the NUSOJ executive committee members and all sorts of threats against the independent media.” Mohamed Ibrahim, NUSOJ Secretary General said, “We call upon immediate cession of all violations against the media freedoms and freedom of expression.”
NUSOJ informed these emerging threats to all concerned organizations.
