The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has banned all US airlines from flying over Somalia deeming it too dangerous.
Federal Aviation Administration has cited threats from armed group Al Shabaab to the airlines using the route saying similar attacks like that of the Ukrainian rebels downing of MH17 in eastern rebel controlled area last July could happen.
All 298 people aboard the Boeing 777 flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur were killed when it was shot down on 17 July last year over a rebel-held area.
US aviation authority believes Al Shabaab has the capability to target airlines flying in Somali airspace.
Federal government of Somalia has not commented on this latest ban the from US federal Aviation Administration concerning its airspace.
This latest warning also comes days after US state department issued travel advisory to its citizens travelling to Kenya citing planed terror attacks against US and western interest in Kenya.
