Turkish aid ship docks at Mogadishu port

Turkish ship carrying more than 11000 tons of aid has docked at Mogadishu port on Sunday.

Officials from Turkish embassy in Mogadishu who were at the port handed over the consignment to the federal government of Somalia interior minister for distribution.

Minister Abdirashid Hidig thanked Turkish government and people for the donation and promised to dispatch the aid to areas affected by the drought across the country as soon as possible.

“We are greatful to our Turkish brothers for this donation and constant support to our people, we will distribute the aid to areas affected across the country with the help of regional state governments,” he said.

Turkey which is the first country to establish diplomatic ties with Somalia since the collapse of the central government was the first to respond to hard hitting drought in Somalia in 2011.

Several parts of Somalia especially the north have witnessed drought before the these ongoing rainfall.
