SRCC appeals for peace and reconciliation in Somalia as world marks Nelson Mandela Day

AU Special Representative for Somalia appeals for peace and reconciliation in Somalia as the world marks Nelson Mandela Day.

The Special Representative of the African Union Commission Chairperson (SRCC) for Somalia and Head of AMISOM Ambassador Maman Sidikou has called on the people of Somalia to continue to work towards peace and reconciliation as the world marks Nelson Mandela Day.

Ambassador Sidikou says that peace in Somalia can be achieved through deliberate determination by all Somalis, including those at religious, community and national leadership, to forgive any real or perceived wrongs and to reconcile with each other.

“This day challenges us to reflect on the prevailing situation in Somalia. May we be inspired by the ideals of forgiveness and selfless service to the nation and humanity that Madiba has come to be revered for” said Ambassador Sidikou.

The Nelson Mandela Day is marked internationally every year on July 18, which is Nelson Mandela’s birth date.
