Somaliland government gets term extension amid opposition protest

Reports from the capital of Somali self-declared state of Somaliland say that the administration of President Ahmed Mohamud Silanyo has got 22 months term extension.

The decision which was reached and announced by elders committee in the self-declared state comes amid violent protest in Hargeisa today by main opposition party Wadani.

Several opposition leaders were detained by security forces after they marched in the main streets in the capital in defiance on the extension term.

The committee argues that there is no enough preparation time for both electoral commission and key political parties in the self-declared state.
