Somali President thanks Australian govt over seizure of illegal weapons

The President of the federal government of Somalia has thanked the Australian government for the recent capture of heavy weapons bound for Somalia.

Australian navy has captured boat transporting more than 2000 weapons bound for Somalia including assault rifles, rocket launchers and machine guns hidden under fishing nets last week.

President Mohamud was speaking after he received diplomatic credentials from the new Australian ambassador to Somalia Mr. John Feakes in the Villa Somalia Presidential palace on Monday.

He called upon Malcolm Turnbull government to help in the rebuilding and reconstruction process in Somalia mainly in youth development and employment creation.

New Australian ambassador thanked the warm welcome by the Somali people and said he is happy about peace and security development made in recent years, while promising to strengthen the diplomatic ties between the two states.
