Somali President renews amnesty for Alshabaab

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has renewed amnesty for the members of armed group Alshabaab that is fighting to topple his government.

Speaking on Sunday May 15th during the anniversary to mark Somali Youth League members Sheikh Mohamud said there will be no revenge on armed group members who surrender to the authorities and give up violence.

“I want to take this opportunity again to offer amnesty for our young people whose hearts were deceived” he said.

“We will not revenge on them” he added.

Somali government has used amnesty strategy to convince youths who at the ranks of armed group Alshabaab in an effort to end decades old violence in the horn of African state.

Several who have defected are serving at various departments in the government.
