Somali police detain AMISOM soldiers selling military equipment in Mogadishu

Somali police have detained five African Union troops and ten Somali nationals in Mogadishu on Sunday, Somali National News Agency has reported.

According to SONNA the troops from Uganda and Burundi were arrested while selling fuel and other military equipment in a garage in Mogadishu Banadir neighbourhood.

“We arrested five AMISOM soldiers and ten Somali nationals while selling military equipment including communication gadgets, weapon storage devices and fuel,” Somali Police Commissioner Major General Mohamed Hassan told SONNA.

Internal Security minister Abdirizack Omar who also spoke to the media has promised no stone will remain unturned as far as the case is concerned.

“We will pursue there motives and we will not rest until the end,” he said.

Chief justice has said he will immediately open the case and the suspects will be brought before the court as soon as possible.

The incident is expected to increase the temperature on top AMISOM military commanders in Somalia and AU peace and security committee in Addis A baba.

It is also increases the suspicion among Somali citizens that claimed links between AMISOM and fighters in the country.
