Somali government to use drone to step up fight against Al Shabaab

Somali government has for the first time acknowledged that it will seek drone strike to step up its fight against armed group Al Shabaab.

Somali Defense Ministry Spokesman Mohammed Yussuf has confirmed to the media saying friendly countries are helping in to deliver drones without giving further specific details of the countries.

“Friendly countries are ready to help us with drones to step up our fight against armed group, “he said.

It is not clear who will operate the device since African Union peace keepers are in the country.

US drone strikes have previously targeted and killed several key Al Shabaab figures inside Somalia including leader Ahmed Abdi Godane on September last year.
