Somali DPM says Alshabaab relocation to Puntland sign of desperation

The Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia has said the recent move by armed group Alshabaab to new areas in Puntland state in the North West of the country is a sign of desperation.

Speaking to BBC Somali service Mohamed Omar Arte said the armed group relocation from one place to another is a sign of success for Somali National Army as far as fighting the Al Qaida linked group is concerned.

However Mr. Arte confirmed that it will take no time to defeat the group and close cooperation of the regional state administration and the federal government is significant.

Senior Somali official comments on Alshabaab come as factions of the armed group entered the small port town of Garad in Puntland coast on Monday.

Regional administration officials in Garowe said they will take no chance to drive out the militants from its territory.

Puntland Information minister Mohamud Hassan Soade said forces will conclude the operation to kick out the militants within 72 hours.
