Presidential Decree Put in Place to Protect Govt Institutions During Transitional Period

The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia has used his powers to order decree to protect state institutions during electioneering period.

The decree released to the media on Tuesday targets the ministries, military, security agencies, foreign policy, international agreements and contracts.

“The President is the symbol of the national union whereas respecting the outcome of the national consultation forum has ordered protection of state institutions during the critical period of elections,” read part of statement.

The decree which goes into effect from 5th September 2016 include as follows

  1. No dismissal or promotion of high ranking official including senior armed forces
  2. All state institutions concerned are ordered to implement the decree
  3. The decree will be effective until 5th November 2016 thus when new President is sworn in.
