President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud cuts short Djibouti visit to address security matters in capital, postpones Sweden visit

Mogadishu, 29 February 2016: The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, HE Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has cut short his trip to Djibouti to review Mogadishu security in light of terrorist attacks that hit the capital, Mogadishu.

In addition the President has postponed his official visit to Sweden scheduled to take place from 1-3 March 2016. This visit was intended to strengthen the bilateral cooperation of the two countries.

Sweden has strong relationship with Somalia in many areas such as development, reconstruction, settlement of Somali refugees, as well as humanitarian assistance.

The President was scheduled to meet the King of Sweden,Carl XVI Gustaf, as well as the Prime Minister Stefan Löfven, and members of Swedish cabinet, to exchange views on Somalia’s progress in the political and reconciliation process, economic development and the enhancement of the Swedish private sector direct investment in Somalia.

President Hassan Sheikh Mahamud expresses his sincere and gratitude to the Swedish people and their government for extending this invitation, but regrettable due to unforeseen security situation of the country, has decided to postpone this visit.

The President looks forward that this visit will take place as soon as possible, with a more stable environment in the country.
