New Somali ambassador to Kenya to deliver credentials amid growing diplomatic row

The new Somalia ambassador to Kenya Jamal Mohamed Hassan is expected to deliver his diplomatic credentials to Kenyan President Uhuru Kenya.

Mr. Hassan who was previously a senior official at Somali embassy in United States handed over his letter of appointment to Kenyan foreign minister Ambassador Amina Mohamed in Nairobi on Wednesday.

The two discussed the growing bilateral relations between the two neighboring states that is affected by growing maritime dispute and Kenya’s proposed security wall along the border with Somalia to prevent armed group Al Shabaab deadly attacks inside its soil.

The new Somali diplomat is a replacement of long serving Ambassador Mohamed Ali Nur aka Ali Americo and  among five new ambassadors assigned to Kenya, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and United Nations Human rights council as part of major reshuffle by ministry of foreign affairs and international cooperation to improve international relations.

The federal government of Somalia announced earlier that it will submit maritime dispute with Kenyan government over Indian Ocean to International Court of Justice next week ending the hopes of Kenya to solve the case in an out of court settlement.
