A mediation meeting between Incumbent President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Presidential candidate Sharif Hassan Sheikh Adan sponsored by Ethiopia has collapsed.
The two met in Addis Ababa for six hours according with the incumbent President Hassan Sheikh seeking Sharif Hassan Sheikh to forsake his presidential bid and back him up.
A source told Radio Dalsan that Sharif Hassan Sheikh Adan declined the offer by the incumbent.
President Mohamud has requested Adan to instead run for the Speaker of the Parliament elections set for January 5.
Following the collapse of the meeting Mohamud returned to Mogadishu while Adan is said to have left for Nairobi.
This is the second attempt by Ethiopia to mediate the two leaders as the 19 plus presidential aspirants continue to canvas ahead of the January 22 ? Elections.
