Ethiopian authorities detain Journalists and take TV station off air

Ethiopian authorities have detained five Journalists on Monday.

The Journalists were invited to false press conference in Wajale town in Ethiopia situated on the border of Somaliland and Ethiopia and later arrested and taken to the capital of Somali regional state in Ethiopia Jijjiga.

Four of the Journalists were later released but Horn Cable TV staff Mukhtar Nuh still remains in Ethiopian government custody.

Horn Cable TV satellite in the area was also taken off air.

It is not immediately clear the main reason behind the arrest of the Journalists.

Somaliland Journalists Association (SOLJA) has confirmed the arrest Radio Dalsan.

Somaliland and Ethiopia are known for their collaboration in arresting Journalists.

There is already ongoing case for Somali Journalists in Hargeisa and others in jail in Ethiopia.

National Union for Somali Journalists (NUSOJ), Somaliland Journalists Association (SOLJA) and Somali Independent Media Houses Association (SIMHA) have condemned the press freedom violations and called for the immediate release of the HCTV journalist.
