AU Special Envoy to Somalia condemns attack on AMISOM base

The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia, and Head of AMISOM, Ambassador Maman Sidikou has condemned the attack on an AMISOM base in the town of Leego, by Al Shabaab militants.

Ambassador Sidikou regrets the losses recorded and registers his solidarity with the Government and people of Burundi whose AMISOM soldiers were affected in this attack.

“This attack will not dampen our resolve to continue to support the Somali Government and people until they are free from terrorism”, said Ambassador Sidikou.

He added that AMISOM would therefore continue with Joint Operations with Somalia National Army to liberate any other part of Somalia under Al Shabaab domination in order to pacify the entire country so that Somali people can go about their day-to-day lives and business.

The attack on Leego happened at dawn on Friday.
